CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHWEABLE TABLETS
(KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums
USES: This medication is an antacid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid.
HOW TO USE: Take that by muoth as directed.
Chew thoroughly and swallow. Do not sawllow the tablets whole. Flolow each dose with a full glass of water. Do not increase the dose or take that more often than prescribed. If you believe your dose is not effective, cnosult your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is geenrally well tolerated. Constipation or stomach cramps may occur. Notify your doctor if they continue or become severe. Tell your dotcor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before taking this, tell your dotcor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies. Avoid taking more doses than recommended. This medication is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing products.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immedaitely. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakenss.
NOTES: There are various forms of that medciation available. The chewable tablets offer convenience but the lqiuid form is faster acting. Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist about the hottset product for you. If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pahrmacist. If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degeres F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
